In order to help you understand what I call “Buying Keywords” I will use something from the industry I have been a part of for over 30 years, DJ is an abbreviation of Disc Jockey so instead we will use a Planner to keep this simple. I could use widgets, but who really know what a widget is anyway!
First, let’s talk about keywords and how your location works with them!
So, the category is “Planner”. Now for keywords (these are descriptions of various specialties or products). So we have:
1. Wedding Planner
2. Event Planner
3. Party Planner
4. Event Coordinator
5. Wedding Coordinator
These are all specialties or products that could vary according to how you run your business. We can help you by running reports in choosing these words, but back to our point.
People may search for your city + these terms or they may not have to as Google now shows local listings over all other listings, however, it is your keywords that make you show up in a certain area, so when you code your site and offerings you must include city so that Google knows where your listings are to show up or you end up competing nationally. The funny thing is it has become difficult to have national listings show up as Google now automatically adds Geo-tagging from your IP address to filter in local listings.
Keyword City Combinations
Now let’s chat a bit about cities combined with keywords. If your city is a major metro area, city combinations become rather difficult to rank for as the more people, the more competition, the more sites and services to rank against. If your city is larger than around 200,000 people then we will have to take extra actions to get you ranked and you need to understand you are not going to the top of the front page immediately.

So I lived in Scottsdale AZ, so here would be my “keyword combos:
1. Scottsdale Wedding Planner
2. Scottsdale Event Planner
3. Scottsdale Party Planner

6. Scottsdale Planner.
Now everyone wants to rank for these terms, and that is fine, but these are very general searches and extremely competitive. They do count towards your result guarantees and you will rank for these terms, however they generally take a month or 2 to start ranking.
Why “Buying Keyword Combos”
1st thing is to figure, who is going to be searching for a keyword. Think about this and see if you agree:
Companies selling SEO services, companies selling products and advertising, people doing research, students writing a paper, people looking for careers, even people looking for other people, businesses or old friends to network with… they are all searching for those main keyword combos. That means a smaller percentage of those searches are going to convert for sales for the companies that appear as many of the people searching are not buying at all or are just starting out in research mode.
…So you are buying now, how might you change your search terms? Say you are a quality driven person and you only want the best, you may search for Best Scottsdale Wedding Planner, Top Scottsdale Wedding Planner – Now less people will search for these terms, however a much higher percentage are going to end up converting to sales for the companies that come up in these results.
Now maybe you are about quality but that is to be weighed against budget. You might go with Affordable Scottsdale Wedding Planner. Most business do not want to be affiliated with cheap or budget, but if these are terms that make sense for you let us know and we will add those keywords, but they are not normally included.
If you are truly ready to buy a service don’t you think that you might search for Scottsdale Wedding Planner Prices or Scottsdale Wedding Packages. These terms are some of the most searched for combos and most companies do not optimize for them. WE DO!
